Government Sports Hostel, Cuttack emerged champions in the 18 th Tata-Utkalika Cup Invitation Football Tournament, defeating local giants Kishore Club in the final by 2-1 goals here at Unit-VI High School Ground today.
The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while the runners-up were given Rs 15,000. Earlier in the semifinals, Kishore Club upset defending champions Tata Football Academy 5-3 in penalty shoot out, while Sports Hostel beat Yazdani Club-73 by a solitary goal.
Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo handed over the trophy and cash prizes in the closing ceremony. Local MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Angul-Sukinda Railway Project MD Dilip Kumar Samantaray, Tata Steel Chief Resident Executive Manikanta Nayak, Football Association of Odisha vice-president Bhakta Ballav Das, host Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dillip Das were present on the occasion. Former India defender Subrat Bhattacharjee and Tata Football Academy coach Akshaya Das were felicitated during the tournament by Unit-VI Athletic Association.
Altogether eight teams, including defending champions Tata Football Academy (Jamshedpur) and last year runners-up Yazdani Club-73 participated in the tournament.
RESULTS:
March 6 (Match No 1, QF): Kishore Club (Sanjit Panna 58th, Narayan Murmu 78th) beat SAI Hostel (Saswat Swain 47th) 2-1. MoM: Sanjit Panna.
March 7 (Match No 2, QF): Govt Sports Hostel, Cuttack (Sujit Tirkey 32nd) beat Unit-VI Athletic Association 1-0. MoM: Bikash Padhiary (Sports Hostel).
March 8 (Match No 3, QF): Yazdai Club-73, Bhubaneswar (Somnath Naik 40th, Md Zajid 63rd, 74th) beat Amrai Mohun Bagan, Kolkata 3-0. MoM: Sarbeswar Mondal (Kolkata).
March 9 (Match No 4, QF): Tata Football Academy, Jamshedpur beat Odisha Police, Cuttack 3-2 in penalty shoot out (Full time: 0-0). MoM: Pravin (TFA).
March 10 (Match No 5, SF): Govt Sports Hostel (Hari Mohan Soren 15th) beat Yazdani Club-73 1-0. MoM: Prashant Nayak.
March 11 (Match No 6, SF): Kishore Club beat Tata Football Academy 5-3 in penalty shoot out (Full time: 0-0). MoM: Higyan Bage (Kishore Club).
March 13 (Match No 7, Final): Govt Sports Hostel (Rudra Prasad Pradhan 32nd, Bhabagrahi Padhiary 50th) beat Kishore Club (Bibhu Ranjan Champati 52nd) 2-1. MoM: Bhabagrahi Padhiary.
INVIDUAL PRIZE WINNERS: Man of the tournament: Bikash Chandra Padhiary (Sports Hostel); Best goalkeeper: Ijaudding Khan (Sports Hostel); Best defender: Jayant Rout (Kishore Club); Best mid-fielder: Simal Marandi (Sports Hostel).
